Tanya Falan Hairstyle of the Week - Charm City Edition

Right now, as I blog....I'm in Baltimore on vacation, and over here the weather is hot.

Just like Tanya's hairdo this week, a great way to stay cool as well.

Her blouse is also nice, looks like one of my Hawaiian shirts I have back in my closet.

How Sandi, Bobby and Cissy are spending their summer so far

They're shooting hoops, just like Lebron, D-Wade and Bosh

Personally, they're a bit overdressed....it gets pretty hot here on the courts

Vacations and Pastimes

Summer is here, and if the price of gas is keeping you from traveling in order to have fun, let the Welk stars give you some ideas for leisure fun that will cost you little or no money at all!

You can go out for some ice cream with your friends....

....perhaps you can throw a Luau in your own backyard, finally put your collection of Hawaiian shirts to good use.....

....or you and your friends can get together for a sing-a-along hootnanny, karoake machine is optional.

Those are just a few suggestions of mine.....what are your plans?

Summer Sounds of '66

Yesterday, my regular PBS station WGTE was in pledge mode, so they carried "Lawrence Welk's TV Treasures" which was nice. Thankfully, I had WBGU to watch this week's regularly scheduled Welk show, "Summer Sounds" from 1966 with wraps hosted by Peggy Lennon.

Here are some highlights....we will start with the Blenders singing "Go Ahead Charlie" with Charlie Parlato and Jo Ann Castle in the park.

Here's Jo Ann again, this time with Aladdin and Bob Lido in this number titled, "Paddlin' Madeline."

Now we head for the islands with Dick Dale and the Lennon Sisters in this calypso number titled "Marianne."

And after a long hard day of singing and entertaining, what better way to relax and unwind with a picnic in the park.

I hope no one forgot to bring the peanut butter and M&M's!

Regardless of what you were able to watch, it was a great day of champagne viewing as always on the tube.

Next week, WGTE is in pledge mode still....but I do believe WBGU will carry "Salute To Nashville."

Vacations show from 1980

This week's Lawrence Welk episode is a salute to vacations from 1980, here at the ice cream parlor...we see Sheila and Sherry Aldridge enjoy a nice ice cream sundae with Jim Turner!

Here's the duo of Ralna English and Guy Hovis singing "Leavin' On A Jet Plane"

And now here's Elaine and Bobby dancing to the sounds of "Come To The Mardi Gras"

And here's the gang with the closing number, "Louisiana Hayride",

However, this is not Louisiana and I don't see any hay or hayrides anywhere..

The waraparounds are hosted by Kathie Sullivan, and it was a very fun and relaxing show indeed. Joey Schmidt appears on the show playing "The Carnival Of Venice" on the accordian, the band plays renditions of both "Tuxedo Junction" and "Moonglow" complete with Gail Farrell's high obligattos.

How the heck does she do that?

Next week, it's "County Fair 1967" on many of these PBS stations, like mine!

America at Play

Here it is....America at Play which originally aired on April 10, 1976 celebrating some of the USA's favorite pastimes....champagne style!

And low, lets go fly some kites with the Semonski Sisters singing "Lets Go Fly A Kite."

Our host of the wraparounds this week is Gail Farrell, she talks about her career as a singer on the Welk show and her endeavours as a songwriter...plus she gives updates on her family, especially her twins Erin and Lauren.

And this is the show where Gail mentions that her favorite baseball team is the San Francisco Giants....just like her husband Ron Anderson.

Anyway, back to the show....if I digress,

There were several great numbers featured, the gang opened the show with "Aint We Got Fun" and several great band instrumentals were featured, such as Henry Cuesta's clarinet solo of "Time On My Hands", "Up A Lazy River" and a George Cates-conducted masterpiece of "Moonglow."

And here's Gail, Sandi & Mary Lou picking up frequent flyer points with "We Can Fly"....nothing but blue skies ahead!

Gail herself, had a terrific solo number with "Downtown", the Petula Clark hit that she sang on her first Welk show....plus Bobby & Cissy looked dapper in their top hat and tails with "Puttin' On The Ritz." Norma Zimmer and Jimmy Roberts rode the scenic LA freeways on their bicycle with "Bicycle Built For Two" and you have Tanya sounding nice by just "Breezin' Along With The Breeze."

Also, don't forget to "Take Your Girlie To The Movies" just like Bobby & Cissy, Jack & Mary Lou did!

Arthur Duncan did some tapping and jogging with "Running Wild" while Guy & Ralna sang John Denver's classic "Take Me Home Country Roads." Joe Feeney sang one of his popular requests, "Around the World" and Tom Netherton countered with "He Touched Me."

And now it's time for the company picnic! Ken Delo finds himself in the middle of the action singing "Take Me Out To The Ol' Ballgame."

And you also have Ava Barber providing the vittles with "Y'all Come" as well!

That's it for the show....next week is a B&W classic from the sixties titled "Southtown USA," so be sure to tune in....and have some fun!

As for me....I gotta unpack and catch up on some email, those weekends in Connecticut can take alot outta ya.
