Myron Floren Disco Polka

Polka and Disco, two great music genres that go great together.

And Myron Floren was able to make that happen!

The year was 1977, and disco hit the big time with movies like Saturday Night Fever and acts like the Bee Gees, Donna Summer and Chic provided the music at discotheques like Studio 54.

And it was only natural for Lawrence Welk's Musical Family to put on their boogie shoes, with the Happy Norwegian leading the way!

This album contains several of your favorites done with that disco sound, such as this treatment of the Beer Barrel Polka.

And also the Clarinet Polka....

Let's see John Travolta and his white polyester suit groove to that!

The blogmaster's fantasy Welk episode: Saturday Night Fever

What if the Lawrence Welk Show went disco?

Just for a week at least, but would make for an interesting show to say the least. If such a episode would be produced, it would air around mid-1979 and the songlist would be something like this.

1. Stayin' Alive (The Bee Gees) - the orchestra plus the men's and girls' chorus with Bobby Burgess and Elaine Niverson dancing
2. Night Fever (The Bee Gees) - Guy & Ralna
3. I Love Music (The O' Jays) - The Aldridge Sisters & Otwell Twins
4. T.S.O.P (M.F.S.B) - orchestra with the saxophone section featured
5. Got To Be Real (Cheryl Lynn) - Tom Netherton

6. We Are Family (Sister Sledge) - Gail, Sandi and Mary Lou
7. Get Down Tonight (KC and the Sunshine Band) - Myron Floren on accordion with the band
8. In The Navy (The Village People) - Bobby Burgess, Jack Imel and Arthur Duncan
9. I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor) - Ralna English
10. You Make Me Feel Mighty Real (Sylvester) - Joe Feeney accompanied by Bob Ralston on the Hammond Organ

11. Turn The Beat Around (Vicki Sue Robinson) - Anacani
12. Disco Inferno (The Trammps) - the orchestra
13. Le Freak (Chic) - Norma Zimmer and Jimmy Roberts
14. Y.M.C.A (Village People) - Ken Delo
15. Hot Stuff (Donna Summer) - Kathie Sullivan

16. Don't Leave Me This Way (Thelma Houston) - Ava Barber
17. Good Times (Chic) - Larry Hooper, Bob Lido, Ken Delo and Guy Hovis as a barbershop quartet
18. Disco Nights (GQ) - the orchestra
19. Keep On Dancing (Gary's Gang) - Mary Lou Metzger & Jack Imel
20. Dancing Queen (ABBA) - Sheila and Sherry Aldridge backed by the girls and men's chorus and dancing courtesy of Bobby & Elaine

I guarantee that after seeing a episode like this, you'll never say "Disco Sucks!" ever again.

And that's the way uh-huh-uh-huh I like it boyce and girls.
