Today, UAW Local 12....Tomorrow, Broadway!

A commercial that runs two minutes and 43 seconds?

That's unheard of in today's television! But back in the late 1950s, it was the norm as seen from this Plymouth commerical featuring some of your favorite Welk Stars from the Silver Champagne Era.

And just to keep score, they are Dick Dale, Alice Lon, Larry Hooper, Big Tiny Little, Bob Lido and Rocky Rockwell.

You got served....

.....some of your favorite snacks on these trays of course!

During the 1950s, one of the earliest Lawrence Welk merchandise that was marketed were these serving trays. Today, they are a popular collectors item that can be found on the likes of ebay.

Here's one featuring the Maestro with the Lennon Sisters....

....and this one with Champagne Lady Alice Lon and Lawrence

Personally, these trays look to good to be eating food off of them!

Alice and Dick and the power of Plymouth

This vintage commercial for the 1959 Plymouth automobiles features Champagne Lady Alice Lon and Music Maker Dick Dale.

Nothing screams car commercial than the sounds of the conga.

That and it's high tech push-button technology.

Adventures in Photoshopping

Yeah, I know that I'm bragging....but I can't help it, Photoshop is the best thing to computers since the internet!

And here's a creation that should bridge the generation gap of Welk fans....

Performing together as a duo.....Champagne Lady Alice Lon and the Maestro's Italian daughter in law Tanya Falan!

That would be music to my ears.

Pleasant Dreams

It was a another "new" Welk episode this week on PBS, and this one is what I call a "Silver Champagne Special". From 1958, in glorious black & white, this particular episode is titled "Pleasant Dreams".

Here's Lawrence welcoming viewers to your Dodge Dancing Party with the band's opening number "Cheek to Cheek".

Next is Champagne Lady Alice Lon with "I'm A Fool To Care".

Here's the Lennon Sisters with "Til' The End Of Time".

Dick Kesner leads the orchestra on his trusty Stradivarius violin with "He'll Be There".

Rocky Rockwell is shown doing KP duty with the number, "Genuine Original First Edition Copy Of A Sad Sack".

Other fine numbers include instrumentals such as "Jingle Jangle Jingle", "The Swan" and "Manhattan", Big Tiny Little's "Spaghetti Rag" and lending his vocals for "Caldonia". There was also Larry Hooper with "Mississippi Mud", The Sparklers with "In The Evening By The Moonlight" and Dick Dale with "One Dozen Roses".

A classic show with great musicians, great singers with great numbers....it's an example of why alot of Welk fans prefer the black & white shows.

And speaking of Tiny Little, he was in the hot seat this week talking about his childhood days and bits of his long and successful career in showbiz.

He still looks mighty good these days, and continues to play up a storm!

Until next week, take care and keep a song in your heart.

Give me some of that Music Music Music

Good evening, and welcome to your Dodge Dancing Party....this week is a classic B&W episode titled "Music, Music, Music" from January 1958, here's the Maestro kicking things off....

And here are a few wunnerful highlights from the show.....

Toro, Toro.....OLE!

Janet Lennon tames Ferdinand the Bull, you try doing that yourself.

Champagne Lady Alice Lon and Rocky Rockwell doing the "Town & Country Polka"

And check it out, Buddy Merrill is out on the dance floor!

The ladies just couldn't resist the charms of a great guitar player.

Tune in next week for another exciting Lawrence Welk classic on your pubic television station!

As for me, I'm off to Cleveland to watch some baseball....pass the brats and a beer.
