April Showers '67

Hope your spring is in bloom, and just like the flowers in the garden, the Musical Family is in bloom with this Springtime episode from '67.

And here are the highlights.....

The Lennon Sisters sing the praises of DDT.....

Barbara and Bobby play Bavarian Pattycake....

......and Larry Hooper listens to Howard Stern on the radio.

APRIL SHOWERS - April 15, 1967

1. APRIL SHOWERS - Kathy, Steve, Natalie, Jimmy, Barbara, Bobby, Dee Dee, Jack with Bob Havens on trombone, Mahlon Clark on clarinet and Dick Cathcart on trumpet
2. WISH ME A RAINBOW - the orchestra with Frank Scott on harpsichord, Bob Ralston on the calvietta and Orie Amodeo on flute
3. LOOK FOR THE SILVER LINING - Norma Zimmer and Jimmy Roberts
4. STORMY WEATHER - Bob Ralston at the piano
5. CHERRY BLOSSOM LANE - Janet, Dee Dee, Kathy and Peggy Lennon

6. SINGING IN THE RAIN - sung and danced by Bobby Burgess, Arthur Duncan and Jack Imel
7. APRIL LOVE - Steve Smith
8. APRIL IN PORTUGAL - the orchestra
9. LOOK TO THE RAINBOW - Natalie Nevins
10. THE SHOE PLODDLER - danced by Bobby Burgess and Barbara Boylan with Myron Floren on the concertina

11. A GARDEN IN THE RAIN - Joe Feeney
12. YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE - Jo Ann Castle at the honky tonk piano with Buddy Merrill at guitar and Neil Levang at banjo
13. SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW - Norma Zimmer
14. RAIN - tap danced by Arthur Duncan

15. IT'S A LOVELY DAY (TO BE CAUGHT IN THE RAIN) - Kathy Lennon and Steve Smith
16. RHYTHM IN THE RAIN - Frank Scott at the piano
17. IT AIN'T GONNA RAIN NO MORE - Larry Hooper
18. INTO EACH LIFE SOME RAIN MUST FALL - Dick Dale
19. IN THE GARDEN - Norma Zimmer with backing chorus of Charlie Parlato, Dick Cathcart, Curt Ramsey and Steve Smith

Each and every one of the numbers featured on the show was terrific, but there is one thing I question....

Why would Kathy Lennon and Steve Smith go cycling in the rain? Especially without wearing protective rain gear?

At least one can say these two know how to take risks in life.

Hope your spring so far has plenty of sunshine, even if you do have some rain and until next time, keep a song in your heart and don't step into any mud puddles.

Same Song, Separate Voices; made for television version

I finally got to watch the Lennon Sisters pledge special last Sunday, let me just say I was not disappointed at one bit.

As you well know, the title of the special comes from the Lennon's best selling autobiography of the same name. It's a retrospective of their career in showbiz starting from their Christmas Eve debut on the Welk show to today.

And along the way, they made plenty of fans and friends, some whom are interviewed on this special.

Famous folk like Kathie Lee Gifford.....

.....and Andy Williams to name a few.

But the stars of the show are the Lennon Sisters themselves.

This special covers all the goods, not just from the time as members of the Musical Family, but when they worked with other showbiz heavyweights like Perry Como, Johnny Carson, Jimmy Durante and of course, Moon River Boy himself......

....plus all the trials, tribulations, tragedy and the joy of discovering Branson are covered too. If your public television station is carrying the special during it's pledge drive, make a date to watch it, or tape it, or do both.

It's just like reading the book, only it has moving pictures!

Same Song, Separate Voices

There's a brand new pledge special coming to PBS on November 26th....

And in the spotlight, the Lennon Sisters!

Which in my opinion about flippin' time....

Lennonpalooza 2010 - The first 55 years of singing excellence

They all came, related by blood and musical talent....

They are the Lennon Family, at least the ones that make Branson their home.

And they all came, joined by Welknotes and the Lennon Sisters Fan Club for Lennonpalooza 2010 at the Stage Door Canteen at the Welk Resort.

On this autumn Sunday afternoon in the Ozarks, the Lennon Sisters of Kathy, Janet, Mimi, Dee Dee and Peggy joined via the Skype webcam from her home in California were honored by family, friends and fans alike for 55 years of singing and being famous.

There was singing, trivia, fans asking questions, memories, love and a musical guessing game of Stump The Lennons. It was fun for all, with a nice brunch to keep everyone's stomachs happy.

And there was cake too!

I had a great day today, capped off in the evening by a terrific dinner at Mickey Gilley's Texas Cafe, you oughta try their Chicken Fried Steak and the best Chili Con Queso and chips around!

Tomorrow, I began my long journey home where I begin the work on putting the vacation pictures on my webpage.

It was a wunnerful, wunnerful vacation, Branson is truly Heaven on earth.

Knock Three Times if you think I had a great Saturday in Branson

Today was all about the Lennon Sisters and Tony Orlando, I went to see their Christmas Show at the Champagne Theater.

This was the first time I saw Tony perform live, he is without a doubt the consummate performer, he has the ability to draw the casual audience member into the show with his stage presence and his charisma.

In other words, he was terrific!

So was Kathy, Janet and Mimi....but what was cool is that we got to see the girls at the Lennon Sisters Fan Club hospitality room

Here's the girls tonight on stage....

....and here's Tony, who taught us how to tie yellow ribbons on oak trees

And finally, the Lennons and Tony with a jolly Leon Russell look-a-like in a red suit....

And after some midnight pizza from Domino's, it's off to bed!

Weekend at the Lennons

I told you yesterday that November is going to be a busy month for me...

So while everyone has election day fever, let's take a break from it so I can share some exciting news.

It's official, I will be in Branson from November 11 to the 15th for a family reunion.

A Lennon Family Reunion

No, I did not discover on ancestry.com that I am a long lost cousin...but on Sunday, the Welk Resort in Branson as scheduled is supposed to have the largest gathering of America's Favorite Musical Family with us fans invited!

On Friday, as a member of Welknotes, I'll be taking part in their 10th anniversary celebrations as well. It will be a great chance to meet the friends I made from the eight years being a member of this fine Yahoo! Group.

And on Saturday, will be seeing Kathy, Janet, Mimi and the legendary Tony Orlando on stage for their Christmas show!

And with all this going on, I'll be blogging and taking pictures for all to enjoy.

Hope to see you there!

The Lennon Sisters in the magical, fantasy land of televised home shopping

Kathy & Janet Lennon appeared on the QVC network early Saturday morning around 3am selling their line of Best Pals dolls and accessories.

I must say, even in the wee hours of the morning when the roosters were comatose....the girls looked and sounded great!

Also this morning, Kathy and Janet will be appearing on the fourth hour of NBC's The Today Show, or better known as Kathie Lee and Hoda's Happy Hour
