Buddy Merrill on Dave White Presents
I found about this from the Welknotes Yahoo group I belong to....if my hunch is right and all goes well. This will be radio worth listening to!
On the next episode of Dave White Presents on internet radio KSAV, Dave will interview Buddy Merrill. We all know Buddy as part of the Welk orchestra from 1955 to 1974 and is quite the pioneer when it comes to recording techniques, especially in multi-tracking singles and albums featuring his fine work on the guitar.
It's scheduled to air Tuesday, January 19th at 7:30 PM - pacific time, 10:30 PM - eastern standard time.

R.I.P Jayne Walton (1917-2010)
Jayne Walton (Rosen), Lawrence Welk's Champagne Lady from 1940 to 1945 has passed away last Sunday.
As Champagne Lady during the years America fought in World War II, she was known for haunting renditions of Spanish tunes....her most popular number was "Marie Elena".

County Fair '75
Do you have the need for the sounds of the Midway?

Or do the sights of smells of the 4-H club's cake contest tickle your fancy?

This was the last episode of the 1974-75 season and also the finale for Clay Hart as a series regular. Around this time, he married former fellow Music Maker Sally Flynn and both would continue professionally as a husband & wife singing act performing at venues such as....you guessed it....county and state fairs.
It was a great episode, and considering the recent cold weather in my neck of the woods, I could use some of that late summer warmth associated with the county fair.

Musical Family Kids - Samuel Griffiths
We all first met him many many years ago as a baby on the 1984 Lawrence Welk Christmas Special, he is the youngest son of Brent and Sandi Griffiths who joined his older siblings in singing "Away In A Manger".
That's Sam in the middle, with his famous Music Maker mom to the left and sister Ami to the right when they taped their wrapround segments for the episode "This Colorful World"
Today, Sam is the proud owner of a Masters Degree from BYU, and is currently living in China where he teaches English to high school students in the Hunan Province.
You can follow his adventures here on his excellent blog titled FORGING DESTINY

By popular demand, it's back....and if you're both a Welk fan and Dancing With The Stars fan, you'll love this one!
Today, in six degrees or less; we'll link Gail
....with Lacey Schwimmer, one of the talented professional dancers from DWTS
And away we go!
1. Schwimmer was on Season 7 of DWTS which one of dancing celebrities was Cloris Leachman
2. Leachman in turn, was known as TV's Phyllis Lindstrom on the classic 70s sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show where one of her co-stars was Ted Knight as TV's Ted Baxter
3. Knight later starred in one of Hollywood's classic movies Caddyshack as Judge Smails alongside comedian Rodney Dangerfield
4. Dangerfield appeared on The Hollywood Squares for the week of February 27, 1978 as one of the celebrity squares along with David Doyle
5. Doyle also was a guest panelist for several episodes of Match Game many of which were alongside Brett Somers
6. And of course Somers was on Match Game for the episodes in which Gail Farrell was a panelist!
It is indeed a small world after all....especially in Hollywood

Salute to Disney
Ah, the first Welk episode of the New Year....with style no less!
This week, Lawrence and his Musical Family salute the music of Walt Disney and here are some of the highlights.
We go around the globe to prove not only it's a Small World after all, but get this particular annoying song stuck in our heads in perpetuity.
Also, LA's finest are getting to know Mary Lou....in spite of the fact there's a possible bank robbery or prison break in progress
....and finally, we meet some pretty exotic cats from Thailand.

This was also the episode where Larry Hooper returns to action after being on the sick for quite a while.
Four years to be exact.
Back in 1969, Hoopie was hospitalized for heart trouble. However, one medical complication after another extended his stay. It was so bad that on at least two occasions, he was given up any hope not just for recovery, but to live.
Thanks to the support of the Maestro and the Musical Family, the well wishes and prayers from fans across the nation along from his own family, and the best medical care available, Hoopie made a full recovery.
He received a standing ovation from the audience, it was truly a touching and moving moment in the show's history.
The show itself was fun, filled with great songs and Bobby Burgess was a great choice to host this week. Before joining the Welk show, Bobby was famous as one of the mouseketeers on television's The Mickey Mouse Club.
