Going MAD with Lawrence Welk
As a kid, I grew up reading MAD magazine with it's unique humor and funny parodies of TV shows and motion pictures.
And I still do, in fact....that where I got my sense of humor and appreciation for pop culture.
Which takes us to my latest fantasy photoshop magazine cover involving Lawrence Welk and his music makers, I think you'll like my parody of MAD doing a parody of the Musical Family.
That Alfred E. Newman cracks me up every time....

By the way, I didn't have a nice trip
....a trip down the stairs that way.
Thanks to one of my cats perched on one of the steps, yours truly Mr. Klutzy Blogmaster slipped down the stairs and hyper-extended his right knee.
So now, I rehab on the couch, ice pack and all....out of action.
What would I give for a couple of nurses like the Lennons to help me along....
I'll do my best to continue blogging all your favorite Welk stuff, so bear with me.
And no, I will not see you next fall.

It's Mary Lou again in the new format
...as your co-host of the weekly Lawrence Welk Show repeats on PBS
So far, I like the new format with Mary Lou sharing the hosting duties with Bobby Burgess. Most of you kinda missed the interviews with the Welk Stars, me being one of them.
That being said, who's left for Mary Lou to interview? And if it's a returning guest, what is there to ask?
Sometimes, one has gotta evolve, kinda like reinventing the wheel.

Tanya Falan Hairstyle of the Week - That Girl edition
"I'm not really Marlo Thomas, but I play someone that looks like her on TV"....
So that means Larry Welk Jr is her Donald Hollinger?
Either that or Phil Donahue.

Lennons on Parade
The Lennon Sisters were recently featured in the Sunday June 6th issue of Parade magazine in Walter Scott's Personality Parade section.
If you're trying to find it online, it ain't there, it's print only so here's the actual Q&A here for your reading pleasure.
And many thanks to my friend Peter MacNeil for the heads up!
Below is the actual question reprinted from Parade with Walter Scott providing the answer....
Q: Whatever happened to The Lennon Sisters, who were on The Lawrence Welk Show in the 1950s and 60s? I seem to remember they had a problem with Welk. - Faye Bush, Wilmington, N.C.
A: Two of the four original Lennon Sisters, Diane and Peggy, have retired. However, the other two, Kathy and Janet, now perform with youngest sister Mimi as a trio, primarily at the Welk Resort Theater in Branson, Mo. "We have the same Lennon family blend and sound," Kathy, 66, tells us.
Were there problems with Mr. Welk? Not really. "He was like a grandfather to us - we were afraid of him and we loved him," Kathy says. "He was a taskmaster, a mentor. It was an incredible schooling for the entertainment world."

These are the people in your neighborhood....
From this week's episode titled Occupations from 1969, let's take a cue from the folks from Sesame Street and find out just who are the people in your neighborhood.
There's the coal miner....
....the dance instructor with her newest pupil
.....the pretty short order cook
....and finally the public school art teacher

How 'Ya Gonna Keep 'Em Down on the Farm?
Heck I don't know....maybe farmer's overalls made by Tommy Hilfiger?
...or maybe have one of the farmer's daughters sit on my lap?
Perhaps you might have a suggestion or two.
