Last year, I posted on this blog fake covers of Lawrence Welk and his Music Makers on Dynamite Magazine as examples of how they can attract the young viewers.
You can view my creations here and here. Yesterday, my fertile mind was at work again, and thanks to the efforts of Photoshop, I made fake covers of the Musical Family if they appeared on Tiger Beat Magazine, the popular publication of pop idols aimed to the teen market.
In between college football and tonight's Welk show, I decided to do another photoshop of Welk Stars on the cover of Dynamite! the 1970s pop culture magazine for kids.
This one features Cissy and Bobby, and it's out of sight!
Growing up in the Texas panhandle in towns like Spur, Haskell and Lubbock....Ralna said many a time that she began singing before she ever spoke.
Among her career highlights before becoming a Champagne Music Maker with the Maestro's gang include winning Lubbock's Battle Of The Band competition one year besting of all folks, Buddy Holly.
Singing at the Six Flags over Texas amusement park in the mid-1960s....
And singing at Santa Monica's The Horn along with a USO Tour....
But did you know back in 1961, she released a single titled "First Date"....it's a teenage pop ballad that is right up with the likes of a Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, Frankie Avalon and Fabian.

I have been a fan of Lawrence Welk since I was a youngster (not too long ago!) and have watched (and taped) his show every Saturday night on my local PBS station, WGTE and sometimes WBGU. My hometown and current residence is Toledo, Ohio and in recent years, I have attended many of their live concerts and had the chance to meet many of the wunnerful music makers as well.
