Ten Years of Welk Musical Family.com

It all began on a Winter's day.....March 3, 2003 to be exact.

For years, Welk fans clamored for a webpage that provided lots of pictures, fun facts and other stuff that was all things Lawrence Welk and his Musical Family.

So on that very day, a humble, little Yahoo Geocities page was launched, featuring nothing more than a few scanned pictures, some facts and plenty of hope and optimism.

Ten years later, Welk Musical Family.com has grown into a colossus, which included this blog, Welkgirls.com, a Twitter account and a successful Facebook page.

And all the while, the original webpage has become THE source for Welk fans to get their online Champagne Music fix.

In honor of this occasion, I made this 10th anniversary collage of the Maestro and the cast of hundreds that made up his Musical Family over the years, see if you can find anyone of your favorites!

My portrait of Joe Feeney

Happy Holidays to all my fellow Welkies!

In between shopping, working and doing the normal Welk-related stuff, I did get some sketching in between.

Recently, I've been doing portraits of the Musical Family. Here is one I drew today of Joe Feeney.

The Lawrence Welk Soul Train

If you're like me, and I know that I am, you've probably said to yourself at one time, "I want to see the Champagne Music of Lawrence Welk, the groovy dancing of Soul Train and the high energy sounds of Heavy Metal rock come together as one."

Thanks to the wonders of You Tube and the fertile imagination from one of America's Best and Brightest, it's now a reality!

It is worth four minutes of your time, and it's got a great beat that you can dance to!

Lawrence Welk Memes!

Hope you all are having a safe and blessed Memorial Day weekend so far.

I noticed in the internet pop culture that memes have been popular, especially using celebrities, politicians and pop culture icons like Willy Wonka have been popular.

So, I decided to make some of my own, using Lawrence Welk of course, because if I don't do it, someone else will.

Going MAD with Lawrence Welk

As a kid, I grew up reading MAD magazine with it's unique humor and funny parodies of TV shows and motion pictures.

And I still do, in fact....that where I got my sense of humor and appreciation for pop culture.

Which takes us to my latest fantasy photoshop magazine cover involving Lawrence Welk and his music makers, I think you'll like my parody of MAD doing a parody of the Musical Family.

That Alfred E. Newman cracks me up every time....

Burt Reynolds, Farrah Fawcett and now Anacani

This was in reference back to my previous Tiger Beat magazine cover post....

Thanks to the miracle of Photoshop, you can have your own Anacani poster!

Just right click on picture to save.

Printing an 8"x 11" is simple enough (standard size of paper), but as for a 16"x 20", 18"x 24" or even a 24"x 36" I haven't figured it out yet....work and research is still in progress

Adventures in Photoshopping

Yeah, I know that I'm bragging....but I can't help it, Photoshop is the best thing to computers since the internet!

And here's a creation that should bridge the generation gap of Welk fans....

Performing together as a duo.....Champagne Lady Alice Lon and the Maestro's Italian daughter in law Tanya Falan!

That would be music to my ears.

Let's face the Facebook and dance!

I've tapped into my creative side and come up with the Lennon Sisters if drawn as South Park characters. It's all courtesy of an online South Park Studio webpage I found in which you can create characters or SP versions of family members, friends and stars!

This here is Dee Dee....

and here is Peggy....

.....followed by Kathy

...and here's Janet.

Also, I have also jumped on the Facebook bandwagon, so far it's fun and not complicated and a pain-in-the-rump as MySpace.

This should be exciting, I'll have the chance to make more friends....especially Welk fans!
