Back home for Thanksgiving

I'm back from a short stay in Baltimore-Washington DC, and found out that these following great things have happened.

UT actually won a game, 42-14 over Miami of Ohio....

and OSU beat Michigan....again

But I am back in time to celebrate Thanksgiving, in both real life and on public television courtesy of the Champagne Music Makers from 1973!

Here's Ralna having a bit of holiday cheer after singing "Y'all Come"....

Larry Hooper is trying to sing his number, but the trombone section won't have any of it.....

Tanya is singing "What the World Needs Now (Is Love Sweet Love)".....

The duo of Gail (Farrell) and (Dick) Dale keeping warm by singing "Button Up Your Overcoat"

Alice in Dairyland in the Land of Welk

Sorry folks, this Alice does not involve Alice Lon....

From the 1973 Thanksgiving show, here are some pictures of Welk show announcer Bob Warren dancing with the reigning Alice in Dairyland from Wisconsin to some lactose-tolerant champagne music.

From the internet research I did, Alice in Dairyland represents the Badger State's dairy industry.
Not cheesy at all indeed...

Thanksgiving 1973

Thanksgiving is almost here, so what better way to celebrate than champagne style with the Salute to Thanksgiving show from November 1973?

This is the first time I got to see this episode, and all the numbers were done beautifully....here's a sampling.

Here's the gang opening the show with "Home For The Holidays".

Next, Guy & Ralna serve up some holiday cheer with, "Y'all Come!"

Up on the stage is Ken Delo in the solo spotlight with "My Cup Runneth Over".

And here's Anacani singing the ever popular Latin standard, "Besame Mucho"....

How about a rousing polka? Myron Floren and the fellas have the answer with the Jenny Lind Polka!

Other fantastic numbers include Tanya's "What The World Needs Is Love, Sweet Love", Bobby & Cissy dancing to "Somewhere My Love", the band's instrumental arrangement of "Winter Wonderland", Clay Hart asking you to "Try A Little Kindness" and "Bless This House" sung by Norma Zimmer.

Also, all the ladies sang "Count Your Blessings" with Sandi Griffiths on lead vocal.

And speaking of Sandi......

She was interviewed this week by Mary Lou Metzger, where she talked about her family which included husband Brent, her father who lives in Utah and her children. In addition to some of her memories on the Welk show, Sandi also talked about getting her Masters at BYU, where she is studying herbology and the gospel of eating "live" foods for a healthier life!

Happy Turkey Day!

I hope everyone is having a wunnerful Thanksgiving, although the football was left to be desired so far....the food and the family were great! I can still feel taste that turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and pumpkin pie....they are still rumbling in my stomach.

Hope you all had ideal Turkey Day weather, it is foggy as London pea soup here in Toledo. Tommorow is Black Friday, where Christmas Shopping officially begins....I choose to wait til' later to start my shopping.
