Dancing With The Stars - Season Nine Cast

While my local public stations are taking a pause from regularly scheduled Lawrence Welk the next two weeks with pledge drives, everyone has been inquiring me about DWTS' new lineup for season nine.

First....here's the lineup

PAMELA ANDERSON (She used to run around in a red bathing suit in super slow motion on some show about lifeguards and David Hasselhoff)

BUZZ ALDRIN (Legendary astronaut - That's one small step for man, one giant Paso Doble for mankind)

SHANNEN DOHERTY (90210 witch, Ashley Hamilton's ex-wife)

KATE GOSSELIN (reality TV star, in other words, who cares?)

NIECY NASH (Who?)

CHAD OCHOCINCO (Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver in his spare time, full time self promoter)

EVAN LYSACEK (Who again?)

ERIN ANDREWS (ESPN anchor and subject of many college frat boys dreams)

NICOLE SHERZINGER (pop singer from Pussycat Dolls)

AIDEN TURNER (Who? For the third time this post)

Other than Ocho, Pam and Buzz....I'm not really that buzzed up about this season's cast.

That and Lacey Schwimmer is not back as one of the professional dancers.

I'm still hoping for any members of the Maestro's Musical Family to guest in the Macy's Stars of Dance Segment.

I'm also hoping DWTS adds the polka to it's staple of dances.

If that happens, maybe Tom Bergeron should consider this guy as his co-host.

All that would create some buzz again, especially if they have these guys perform the music!

Just my two cents....

Six Degrees of Gail Farrell #6

By popular demand, it's back....and if you're both a Welk fan and Dancing With The Stars fan, you'll love this one!

Today, in six degrees or less; we'll link Gail

....with Lacey Schwimmer, one of the talented professional dancers from DWTS

And away we go!

1. Schwimmer was on Season 7 of DWTS which one of dancing celebrities was Cloris Leachman

2. Leachman in turn, was known as TV's Phyllis Lindstrom on the classic 70s sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show where one of her co-stars was Ted Knight as TV's Ted Baxter

3. Knight later starred in one of Hollywood's classic movies Caddyshack as Judge Smails alongside comedian Rodney Dangerfield

4. Dangerfield appeared on The Hollywood Squares for the week of February 27, 1978 as one of the celebrity squares along with David Doyle

5. Doyle also was a guest panelist for several episodes of Match Game many of which were alongside Brett Somers

6. And of course Somers was on Match Game for the episodes in which Gail Farrell was a panelist!

It is indeed a small world after all....especially in Hollywood

Return of Dancing With The Stars

Okay Tom and Samantha, you getting to work on having the Champagne Music Makers appear in the Macy's Stars of Dance segment?

Tonight was the first of the three night season premiere of DWTS, sixteen celebrities and their dance partners going after a mirrorball trophy.

The male stars were up first, only in America where you'll see Michael Irvin and Tom Delay do the Viennese Waltz....and get the creepy chills as well.

Donny Osmond looked sharp, and Chuck "Don't call me Barney" Liddell had the moves too.

Tommorow, the ladies will take to the dance floor...and I'll be watching

And now, your Dancing With The Stars lineup for Season Nine

It's one of my favorite times of the year, Dancing With The Stars returns for Season Nine next month!

Here's the lineup announced yesterday on ABC's Good Morning America, let's just say the cast is well....interesting

MACY GRAY - a popular singer from that nostaglic decade known as the 1990s
MELISSA JOAN HART - star of Clarissa Explains All from the Golden Age of Nickelodeon, also later became a TV witch
KATHY IRELAND - SI model from my days of youth, also star of the movie Alien From LA
MYA - an R&B singer who was in the Chicago movie
MARK DACASCOS - Food Network personality
ASHLEY HAMILTON - George Hamilton's son, married to Shannon Doherty for about ten seconds
MICHAEL IRVIN - Dallas Cowboys HOF receiver, ESPN broadcaster known to wear some of the three piece suits from the Rose Weiss collection (just kidding!)
DONNY OSMOND - Marie's brother, and he can sing pretty good
TOM DeLAY - Former House Majority Leader, I guess Newt Gingrich wasn't available
NATALIE COUGHLIN - US Olympic gold medal swimmer not named Michael Phelps
JOANNA KRUPA - model, covergirl and actress....and Terrell Owens' BFF
DEBI MAZUR - a famous actress from days gone by (the 1980s and 1990s)
KELLY OSBOURNE - Ozzy's daughter
AARON CARTER - singing teen idol from the good ol' days of the 90s
CHUCK LIDDELL - UFC fighter, expert in Mixed Martial Arts and he's NOT related to Barney Liddell
LOUIE VITO - snowboarder from the ESPN's X-Games

It has everything, interesting stars, hot ballroom action and possibities of a train wreck, all in the name of entertainment! Coupled with the new season of Lawrence Welk shows and football, this will be my favorite time of the year and you know my DVR will be humming!

Oh, and I'm still holding out hope for any of the Welk Stars to appear in the Macy's Stars Of The Dance segment

Get On That Dance Floor

Normally, Mondays are not one of my favorite days of the week.

But that does change when Dancing With The Stars is on!

So far, the judges have been pretty stiff with the dancers....handing out fours and fives along with the usual highs of nines and tens.

Right now, watching Steve-O and Lacey Schwimmer (rawrr....) attempt to do the Lindy Hop and what I said about those fives and fours, Steve Wozinak (Computer nerds like myself know who he is) has been the butt end of those scores, just plain cannot dance to save his life.

Funny moment of the night, Bergeron (Tom that is) made a joke at co-host Sam Harris' cold saying she sounded like Wilford Brimley.

One thing is for sure, you can bet our favorite dancing couple of Cissy and Bobby if they competed on the show, will get tens everytime!

But I'll settle for them guesting on the Stars of Dance segment, and give the two Steves, Holly Madison and Lawrence Taylor some pointers too....

Let's vent...shall we?

Is it just me, or having a laptop for just a week has been a life changing experience?

Last night's Dancing With The Stars premiere was pretty good....having a good chuckle or two at the sight of Lawrence Taylor learning to ballroom dance.

I did like this couple dancing to "Moon River"....oen of the many hit songs by Lawrence Welk and his orchestra.

If they do either Calcutta or Yellow Bird, that would be just wunnerful!

Maybe this is the season Bobby Burgess, Cissy King or any of the Welk Stars make a guest appearance on the Macy's Stars of Dance segment on the show.

Just keeping my fingers crossed.....

Dancing With Root Canal

Just got back from the dentist, two and half hours of root canal work will leave you in pain and then some.

Tonight is the Dancing With The Stars finale....it's Kristi, Cristian and Jason in the finals, and I am predicting that an athlete (Kristi or Jason) will emerge victorious.

Also tonight is the first of the two American Idol finales....I believe either this one or tomorrow's show will reveal who is AI's top songwriter.

I got my fingers crossed that it will be Gail, just watch and find out!

More Dancing With The Stars Stuff

I haven't seen such dramatic television by a one-armed man since the series finale of The Fugitive over forty years ago.

With his left arm in a sling thanks a ruptured tendon, Christian de la Fuente and his partner Cheryl Burke tangoed and mamboed his way to the top of the judges leaderboard....nice work of choreography and footwook in spite of these limitations!

Jason Taylor did will in the ballroom round, but fumbled in the latin round....much to the dismay of my Miami Dolphins fanatic parents, but in tonight's results show...based on the judge's scores, I think Marissa Jaret Winokur will most likely get the boot from the ballroom.

And is DWTS ever going to incorporate polka dancing in their rountines? It's a great way to put some freshness in the show....and bring in new faces in the Stars of Dance Segment (Tim Padilla, Jimmy Sturr, Big Joe Siedlik or any of the Welk stars)....but most importantly, America (the Midwest to be exact) would love to see the pros (Cheryl, Edyta Sliwinska, Julianne and Derek Hough) get their oompahs on Cleveland and Chicago style.

Dancing With The Stars stuff

It's been a pretty good season so far, although I liked last season better.

Last night, Adam Corolla and Julianne Hough was kicked out of the ballroom....didn't see that coming (*sarcasm*). My family is rooting for Jason Taylor to win the whole thing....they're all Miami Dolphins fans.

And I still think Len Goodman looks like Sam the Eagle from the Muppet Show.

Dancing With The Stars - Season Six lineup

The moment we all have been waiting for....well for those who like dancing....ABC announces it's Season Six lineup for Dancing With The Stars which will start on March 17th.

Without further delay, here's the cast.

1. ADAM CAROLLA - co-host of The Man Show (also known as The View for real men)

2. CRISTIAN DE LA FUENTE - Latin actor, don't know too much about him

3. SHANNON ELIZABETH - That chick from American Pie, also known to play poker

4. STEVE GUTTENBERG - The Police Academy residual checks must be runnin' dry

5. MARIO - He's a popular R&B singer, not and I repeat NOT the title character from the Super Mario Brothers video game empire

6. MARLEE MATLIN - Oscar winning actress, has also done television too

7. PENN JILLETTE - The other half of Penn & Teller....the one who speaks....used to do annoucing voiceovers for Comedy Central

8. PRISCILLA PRESLEY - Elvis' ex....also showed up on Dallas

9. MONICA SELES - Used to play professional tennis

10. JASON TAYLOR - Pro Bowl defensive end for the Miami Dolphins, not the reason why they won just one game last year

11. MARISSA JARET WINOKUR - played Tracy Turnblad in the Broadway version of Hairspray...also won one of those awards called a Tony

12. KRISTI YAMAGUCHI - Olympic medalist figure skater not named Nancy or Tonya

And that's your lineup....sadly no Welk stars made the cut. But who knows, maybe on the results shows, the Macy's Stars of Dance will invite Arthur Duncan or perhaps Bobby Burgess and Mary Lou Metzger to show those folks a thing or two about dancing!

It's only a matter of time if they can top last season.

December shows and "Stars" finale

According to OETA, the schedule of upcoming shows (Johnny Mercer on Dec 1st, Musical Tour of the US on Dec 8th, Winter on Dec 15th, Christmas on Dec 22nd and Tour of Southern California on Dec 29th) are all new and hopefully, I would be to see them.

The problem is, many affliates like mine.....December is usually public TV fund raising drives which means many of these shows will get pre-empted.

Overall, I think OETA does a good job with the Welk franchise, but for once.....could they schedule the shows other than these busy pledge drive periods?

And now the latest from "Dancing With The Stars", last night's show may have decided the outcome which is to be announced on the results show.

Personally, I think Heilo Castroneves will win....he personifies the spirit of the show, and has won many new fans with his personality.

Scary Spice did will with her two dances, but not well enough to win the fans' vote....can you spell "professional dancer" boys and girls?

As for Marie Osmond, I think this is the end of the line for her.....what the hell was the routine she danced to in the freestyle round?

Whoever wins tonight, one thing is for sure.....judge Len Goodman looks alot like Sam the Eagle.

Dancing With The Stars finals.....place your bets

Next week's finals for Dancing With The Stars is set.....it boils down between a Spice Girl (Scary Spice/Mel B.), an Osmond (Marie) and a Indy 500 champ (Castroneves).

I was surprised that Marie got in, despite being only one of the four semifinalists to not once have a perfect score in either the Ballroom or Latin round but the fans have spoken.

Scary is still the favorite to win, but doesn't have the Osmond Army-type support Marie has.....Helio Castroneves would be the next favorite, but will enough racing fans be able to push him across the finish line?

This should make for one interesting title bout!

More Dancing With The Stars.....

This week, it's two dances for the price of one.....the Ballroom round and the Latin round!

Scary Spice cemented her front-runner status with the highest total score of the week, scoring a perfect 30 with her paso doble after scoring a 24 previously with the Viennese waltz.

Marie Osmond did well scoring a strong 28 with the quickstep, but stumbled with a 24 with her cha cha.

Former 90210 star Jennie Garth finished second in the competition, scoring a 25 also doing the Viennese waltz and a 28 with the rumba. Heilo Castroneves did respectable with a 25 on the tango and a 27 on the samba.

Rounding out the two, Cameron Matheson got a 24 with the quickstep and a 27 with the jive followed by Jane Seymour with a quickstep scoring a 24 followed by a 26 with her cha cha.

Now comes the result show.....will there be another shocker? Only the viewers have the final say.

Dancing With The Stars recap

Is it just me, or am I the only one stunned by Sabrina of the Cheetah Girls being voted off on the results show?

That just proves that in the world of television, suprises and shockers are there at every turn, and considering she has been one of this season's contenders....getting the heave-ho surprised everyone, even the ballroom audience.

Now, it's Scary Spice looks like the favorite to win....unless the voters have their say....and most of the voters could be Osmond fans.....Marie, despite finishing next-to-last in the judges score for the week.....is safe.

The drama continues......

Dancing With The Stars recap for Week Five

Anyone saw Marie Osmond faint? The competition is starting to take a toll on many of the couples.

The fifth week of competition saw Scary Spice and Sabrina of the Cheetah Girls the top two with 29 and 28, they are looking like the favorites to win the title for season five...and look for Jane Seymour as the dark horse, she's looking impressive.

Bottom two in this round are Osmond and Mark Cuban with 21 a piece, looks like one of them will not return for next week....depends on what the voters have their say.

From this point on, there is no room for error....even scores in the mid-20s wouldn't be enough, when the level of dancing is this excellent!

Yes I watch Dancing With The Stars.....gotta problem with that?

OK, the secret is out.....I've watched the entire season five of the popular ABC show so far.

It all started at work, at my job in AM radio....usually when I work evenings, the studio has a TV, no cable....just the terrestrial channels, I chose to watch the season's premiere three weeks back and was hooked....the star lineup is stellar especially when it includes Wayne Newton, Jane Seymour, Heilo Castroneves, Mark Cuban and Marie Osmond just to name a few.

And the quality of ballroom dancing is stellar....just like what you see every week on the Welk show.

Last Monday, while going back-and-forth between Cowboys-Bills Monday Night Football, Yankees-Indians ALDS Game Four....most of my TV time was spent on watching Jennie Garth tackle the tango and Floyd Mayweather doing the jive.

It's early in the competition, and I still have not decided on who is my favorite to win....it's still anyone's ballgame.

One of these days, the producers gotta have Bobby Burgess, Cissy King, Arthur Duncan or any of the dancing Welk stars guest star....or perhaps have the couples dance to something more challenging.

Like the Calcutta or a rousing polka.....
